Modelling the morphodynamic evolution of Galveston beach, Gulf of Mexico, following Hurricane Ike in 2008

چکیده
A unique set of field measurements taken along Galveston beach have been compiled to give annual shoreline positions over the period 2010–2016. These used, in conjunction with statistical and mathematical modelling, gain insights into response after landfall Hurricane Ike 2008, which caused extensive erosion loss material from beach. Over 2010–2014, a generally accretive trend is observed Within this trend, two different patterns are evident. In area extending westward South Jetty accretion rate fast until April 2011, decreases. The remainder beach, including groyne front city Galveston, exhibits greatest 2011. It hypothesized that distinct sandbanks lying offshore Island were formed during passage control these recovery. To test hypothesis novel 1-line model, based on linked analytical solutions, was up investigate various sediment source distributions. model tested against existing survey performed satisfactorily. An exploration supply scenarios supports stores, one south diffuse linear running length seawall, gradually being fed back by prevailing wave conditions.

15 صفحه اولHurricane Risk Variability along the Gulf of Mexico Coastline
Hurricane risk characteristics are examined across the U. S. Gulf of Mexico coastline using a hexagonal tessellation. Using an extreme value model, parameters are collected representing the rate or λ (frequency), the scale or σ (range), and the shape or ξ (intensity) of the extreme wind distribution. These latent parameters and the 30-year return level are visualized across the grid. The greate...
